What is the Super Bowl?
In the United States, the Super Bowl is the name given to the final of the NFL, the American football league. Among the most watched events in the United States and even worldwide, it is a true tradition for American football fans, but it is also an event particularly known for its “Halftime Show” welcoming each year among the most popular artists like Rihanna (2023), Michael Jackson (1993) or Coldplay (2016).
Super Bowl History in Brief
The term “Bowl” is the name given to post-season American football games, both university and professional. The first Super Bowl took place on January 15, 1967 in Los Angeles and pitted the champions of the AFL league, the Kansas City Chiefs, against the champions of the competing league, NFL, the Green Bay Packers who were the winners of this first Super Bowl. At that time, the event was called the “AFL-NFL World Championship Game”. The term Super Bowl was first used in 1969 for Super Bowl III. It was a year later, in 1970, that the two leagues merged to become two conferences of a single league, the NFL. Every year since, the champions of each conference have competed to become the national league champion.
The Super Bowl in Las Vegas
In 2024, 57 years after the very first Super Bowl, Super Bowl LVIII takes place in Las Vegas at the home team's stadium called Allegiant Stadium. This edition will pit the legendary franchises of the San Francisco 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs. A poster reminiscent of that of 2020 and from which the Chiefs emerged victorious. This year's Halftime Show will be hosted by singer-songwriter, Usher.
Where and When to Watch the Super Bowl?
The game will take place on Sunday February 11, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. local time (Pacific Time). To see the Super Bowl physically, it's at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. On television, the game will be broadcast live on CBS and Nickelodeon, but also streaming on the Paramount+ platform.
