Where and When to Attend a Rodeo
in Las Vegas?
Matt Dubois - Updated on Dec 1, 2025
Rodeo has its roots in cattle ranching in Spain, where the word "rodear" means "to encircle, to turn around." Originally, rodeo involved rounding up cattle for branding, grooming, or sale. It first evolved into informal competitions in Mexico and the American Southwest, which transformed into official rodeos in the late 19th century with events like the one in Pecos, Texas, in 1883. The creation of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) in 1936 definitively regulated the sport. Today, a visit to the American West isn't complete without attending at least one real rodeo. So why not take advantage of your trip to Las Vegas to discover this sport that will truly immerse you in the world of cowboys?
